Full mouth rehabilitation means rebuilding most or all of your teeth as one plan, instead of fixing them one emergency at a time. It can combine crowns, bridges, root canals, gum care and dental implants, and the aim is simple: teeth you can chew, speak and smile with without thinking about them. At Reform Dental Clinic in Sector 15, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, Dr. Shipra Mandwar (BDS, MDS), a prosthodontist and implantologist, plans each of these cases personally, starting from your bite.
Most people who need this have been patching things for years. A filling here, an extraction there, a denture that never quite sat right. Then chewing gets hard on both sides, the front teeth look shorter than they used to, and every check-up finds something new. This page covers what a full rebuild involves, where implants come in, how long it takes, and when you don't need anything this big.
Who Usually Comes In for a Full Mouth Rebuild
There's no single picture of a full mouth rehabilitation patient, but most people we see in Kharghar recognise themselves in at least one of these:
- Several teeth missing, with the rest drifting, loosening or tipping into the gaps
- Teeth worn short and flat from years of grinding or acid erosion
- A mouth full of old crowns, fillings and bridges that keep failing one after another
- A loose or uncomfortable denture you'd like to swap for fixed teeth
- Jaw ache, headaches or a bite that has felt 'off' since teeth were lost
Why the Bite Comes Before the Teeth
When teeth wear down or go missing, your bite slowly collapses. The lower face can start to look shorter, the remaining teeth take more load than they were built for, and the jaw joints compensate. Putting new crowns on top of a collapsed bite just rebuilds the problem in porcelain.
So planning starts with how your jaws meet. Dr. Shipra records your bite and takes X-rays and a scan before any tooth is touched. Where the bite height needs to change, it's usually trialled first in temporary teeth that you wear for a few weeks. You get to feel the new bite in daily life, and we adjust it before anything permanent is made.
Where Implants Fit In, and Where They Don't
Implants are Dr. Shipra's focus, and in full mouth work they carry the load wherever teeth are missing. One implant can fill a single gap. A few implants can hold a fixed bridge across several missing teeth. For a jaw with no reliable teeth left, four to six implants can support a full arch of fixed teeth, the approach usually called All-on-4 or All-on-6.
A good plan still keeps every healthy tooth it can. Your own tooth, crowned or root canal treated if it needs to be, is usually worth saving over an implant. Implants go where teeth are already lost or genuinely can't be saved, not everywhere by default.
Your Options, From Crowns to Fixed Full-Arch Teeth
Most plans mix a few of these, matched to what each part of your mouth needs:
- Crowns and onlays to rebuild worn or broken teeth worth keeping
- Root canal treatment to save teeth with infected nerves before they're crowned
- Fixed bridges, on natural teeth or on implants, to close gaps
- Implant-supported full-arch teeth (All-on-4 or All-on-6) when a whole jaw needs replacing
- Implant-retained overdentures: a removable denture that clips onto two to four implants so it stops slipping
- Gum treatment first, so everything is built on a healthy base
How Long It Takes, Visit by Visit
A full rebuild is a project, not a single appointment. The first visits are for diagnosis and planning: an examination, X-rays, a scan, bite records and a written plan you can take home and think over. Urgent problems come next. Infection, painful teeth and gum health get sorted first so the mouth is stable.
The rebuilding itself usually happens in stages, often one jaw or one side at a time, so you always have a working set of teeth. If implants are part of the plan, they need roughly three to six months to bond with the bone before the final teeth go on, and temporary teeth cover that time. Most crown-and-bridge cases take a few months from first visit to final teeth. Implant-heavy cases can take six months to a year.
Sometimes a Smaller Fix Is the Right Call
If one or two teeth are causing the trouble, you don't need a whole-mouth plan. A crown, a filling or a single implant will do. If what bothers you is mainly how your front teeth look, smile designing is usually the better fit. We'll tell you plainly at the consultation.
Full mouth rehabilitation is a big commitment of time and money. We recommend it when the whole bite genuinely needs rebuilding, and not before.
What Full Mouth Rehabilitation Costs in Kharghar
There's no single price, because no two plans are alike. The cost depends on how many teeth need crowns, root canals or extraction, how many implants are placed, whether bone grafting is needed, and the material chosen for the final teeth. A plan built mostly on crowns costs far less than full-arch implants on both jaws. After your assessment at Reform Dental Clinic, you'll get a written, itemised estimate, and phasing the treatment can spread the cost over time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Not always. Many plans rebuild the teeth you already have with crowns, bridges and root canals. Implants come in where teeth are missing or can't be saved, and for replacing a whole jaw with fixed teeth.
Yes, and we'd rather you did. Healthy teeth, and many weaker ones that can be crowned or root canal treated, are kept wherever it makes sense. Implants are used where teeth are already gone or can't be saved.
In most cases you'll wear natural-looking temporary teeth between stages, so you can eat soft to regular food and smile in public. The temporaries also let you try out the new bite before the final teeth are made.
It depends on the plan. A crown-and-bridge rebuild usually takes several visits over a couple of months. An implant-based plan adds a healing period of three to six months. You'll get a visit-by-visit outline at the planning stage.
Often, yes, if your sugar levels are well controlled. We'll ask about your health, recent reports and medicines, and coordinate with your physician where needed. Uncontrolled diabetes and heavy smoking both slow healing, so we'll talk honestly about the risks before planning implants.
